USI @ SIGUCCS 2017 (Seattle, WA – USA)

We had our paper “A Touchless Gestural System for Extended Information Access Within a Campus” accepted at the ACM SIGUCCS 2017 Annual Conference, that will be held in Seattle (WA – USA) 1-4 Oct. 2017.

The paper is a joint work with our colleague and friend Alessio Malizia, and with the contribution of Cristina Enea from her final thesis for the Master’s Degree in History of Arts.

Here we present an information provision system allowing for touchless gestural interactions, along with a trial implementation at the University of Palermo to test its effectiveness in a real setting. Our system is intended for being used by students, lecturers and staff members, providing a captivating way to access news, lectures information, videos and more. Due to the touchless nature of its interactivity, the system is suitable to be accessed by people with temporary or permanent physical impairment, such as wheelchair users. For the same reason, the system can be placed in safe positions and furthermore it allows users to avoid the common hygienic issues of touch-based screens.

The paper will be presented within the track on “Infrastructure and Emerging Technologies“.
